Kick off the Lunar New Year with one of the most spectacular lion and dragon dance performances in the city. The dance, which will begin on the morning of Saturday, 29 January 2025, symbolises prosperity and good luck for the coming year – and the annual Chinese New Year performance is one of the most celebrated and respected traditions at The Peninsula Hong Kong. In addition to the main performance on New Year's Day, a vibrant lion dance will also take place on the fourth day of Chinese New Year.
The spectacle commences with the awakening ritual of nine lions and one dragon, in which the eyes of the mighty creatures are dotted. An enthralling, specially choreographed performance follows, which is designed to bring luck, blessings and good fortune to both our guests and staff members through the year.
The Peninsula Hong Kong has long been known for staging the city’s most impressive and elaborate lion and dragon dance. In keeping with this legacy, our hotel goes to great lengths to ensure an unforgettably spellbinding performance. As a nod to the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited’s Chinese roots and the location of its flagship property, it has become customary for a lion and dragon dance to be performed at the openings of other Peninsula properties around the world.
